surferPix.com site updates

June 23rd, 2009

I just wanted to make a few formal announcements about recent changes to site. As well as provide some insight on what I have been doing if not photography, or web development, aslo provide you info on where the site going and when. In addition, I wanted to create content for this empty blog since I’ve neglected it. What can I say…. the South Shore has been firing.

Site Updates

First and foremost – The site is now even faster, with page response time cut in half  thanks to much improved coding and design. It took more than several days to improve but I think if you navigate the albums often you would appreciate this efforts when the swells hit and web sites load increases.

Second - We completed the capability to support PayPal IPN (instant payment notification) and Google Checkout. Giving you the customers the capability to securely and quickly place your orders using either of these two payment options should you be a member of these services.

Thirdly – The little icons are back again with the added functionality of saving your favorites. Thats right … the little star that appears when you mouse over the image thumbnails (I call it the matrix).  This is a small cog in the next big hurdle for the site.

Last but not least - Content is King so must do our best to update. From now and to the end of the summer, we will purging out old photo albums since we are nearly complete with the CMS tool to allow this to happen efficiently and correctly. New albums with larger preview and thumbnails will replace the old content. However, we will keep old photos that … 1. added to your favorites, 2. have a high hit rating and 3. down right nice to keep and we will replace them with higher resolution copies.

What’s next

Here are some bullet pointers about what are next initiatives for surferPix.com. Thinking globally.

  • Surf photographers – We would like to allow posting from other photographers… this will shift our content from mainly all Hawaii based content to the rest of the world but the tool is not quite ready. We expect to have this ready by the end of the summer.
  • Social integration and community driven content.

More on this later… dinner is ready. Aloha and A Hui Ho!
